Young man killed in drive-by attack (Richmond, VA): In a drive-by shooting on the evening of March 18th, a man in his late teens or early 20s, was fatally shot with a semi-automatic rifle, police said. The motive of the slaying has not yet been determined.

Gang shooting kills two, including a bystander (Los Angeles, CA): In a gang-related shooting on March 14, two men, including a bystander, were killed and a third was wounded. The three victims were standing streetside when a car pulled up; two men got out and started shooting at one of the men who police believe to be the intended target. The other two victims appeared to be bystanders and not gang members.

Teen Killed (Long Beach, CA): A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot in a gang-related attack according to Long Beach police. The boy and his friends were walking down a local street when the shooting occurred. Police have no other details or descriptions of the suspects.

Twenty-three charged after Easton area brawl (Easton, PA): About two-dozen students were charged with disorderly conduct and two others with more serious charges on March 17th, after a brawl that broke out in the gym lobby of Easton High School. Investigation is underway to see if the incident was gang-related. No injuries were reported, but two administrators trying to suppress the activity were knocked down during the melee. Police believe that the incident could have been sparked by a fight the previous week between two groups of students.

Three men shot in Plainfield in gang-related dispute (Plainfield, NJ): A gang-related shooting involving about 30 members from the East Sixth Street Posse and the Clinton Avenue gangs led to heightened security in local area schools. Two 18-year-olds were shot in the legs and the third victim, a 21-year-old, was shot in the shoulder. All are expected to recover. Police said that this incident was retaliation for the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old male that occurred a few days earlier.

Shooting leads to pot bust (Rockford, IL): Rockford police officials are calling a drive-by shooting a drug deal gone bad. They seized more than 100 pounds of marijuana from one of the vehicles involved. At least 17 shots were fired by one, possibly two, vehicles, but no one has been reported injured. A man and a woman have been arrested, and police are still looking for three suspects.

Man found slain at boat ramp was subject of police investigation (Columbia, TN): In the early morning hours of March 16th, at a boat ramp near the Duck River, Maury County investigators found the body of a 30-year-old man who had been shot to death. Police said the shooting was likely gang-related and the victim had a lengthy history of criminal involvement.

One dead, one injured in drive-by shooting (San Francisco, CA): Three suspects allegedly killed one person and wounded another in a drive-by shooting that police suspect was gang-related. The shooting took place at a bus stop in the Mission District of San Francisco.

Hollenbeck shooting (Los Angeles, CA): Los Angeles police reported that a man was critically wounded in a gang-related drive-by shooting southeast of downtown, but would most likely survive. The victim was shot in the back and both legs.

Police seek leads in two shootings (Van Nuys, CA): Two teenagers were wounded in separate and unconnected gang-related drive-by shootings. The shootings occurred 30 minutes apart, police said. Both teenagers are expected to recover.

Police investigating possible gang assault (Thousand Oaks, CA): Police believe a man was the victim in a possible gang-related assault. The man suffered lacerations to his shoulder, side, and back. No arrests were made and no additional information was available.

Two others charged in fatal shooting (Columbus, OH): On March 14, warrants were filed for a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old man charged, respectively with aggravated murder and a delinquency count of aggravated murder. Detectives had already charged a 14-year-old in the same case. All three men allegedly took part in killing a 21-year-old male on March 12th. Officials said a total of 37 shots were fired, but refused to comment any further on details of the slaying. Witnesses believe that it was gang-related, but declined to talk to the police.

Man pleads not guilty in gang-related killings (Los Angeles, CA): The suspected leader of a northeast Los Angeles gang pled not guilty to nine gang-related killings and six attempted murders. In the death penalty case, the gang leader is suspected of either killing or supervising the killing of five men and four women as part of a scheme to control narcotics trade in Atwater Village, a Los Angeles suburb.

Suspect in shooting nabbed (Greensboro, NC): A 22-year-old man was arrested for the drive-by shooting death of a 16-year-old on March 8th. The shooting was related to an ongoing dispute between local Bloods and Crips, police said. On the night of the shooting, the victim was said to be flashing gang signs with the suspect, but it still is not clear whether the victim was a gang member.

County board okays unit to fight gang activities (Pontiac, IL) : Increased gang activity in Livingston County has prompted officials to approve a gang-suppression unit. A six-member unit will most likely be comprised of two deputies from the sheriff's department, two police officers from the Pontiac Police Department, and one officer each from the Dwight and Fairbury police departments. The approval by the county has now opened the doors for discussion of intergovernmental agreements to make arrests anywhere in the county. According to officials, gang activity has been on the rise in the Pontiac area due to police displacing gangs from other cities.

Otero County authorities arrest five in Alamogordo shooting death (Alamogordo, NM): Five people have been arrested in Otero County for shooting a 22-year-old man to death. A local district attorney has said that the shooting was gang-related.

Athens Homicide (Los Angeles, CA): On March 12, a gunman in a gray car shot and killed a 19-year-old man and wounded two others in an unincorporated area of LA County, in what Sheriif's Department officials are terming a gang-related drive-by shooting.

Shooting victim, brother involved in crash (Ivanhoe, CA): A 17-year-old boy crashed his car as he was driving his younger brother to a local hospital. The younger brother had been shot three times in an apparent gang-related shooting. The driver had hit speeds of up to 100 mph before he crashed. The two brothers were walking out of a local supermarket when they were approached by two boys. An argument preceded the actual shooting. The two suspects fled the scene on bicycles.

New charges in Aurora gang probe (Aurora, IL): According to Aurora police, a third man has been charged with murder in Operation Double Down, an ongoing federal, state and local investigation targeting an Aurora street gang. The man was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the October 16, 2002 shooting of a 24-year-old man. Operation Double Down has resulted in many arrests for state and federal gang-related drug and weapons charges.
