MS-13 Members and Associates Arrested for Sex Trafficking a Minor (Alexandria, VA): Eleven members or close associates of the MS-13 gang were arrested this week relating to the sexual exploitation and physical abuse of a minor in northern Virginia and Maryland. “Sex traffickers often prey upon the most vulnerable victims in our society, and when combined with the horrific abuses of a gang like MS-13, the effects can be devastating,” said G. Zachary Terwilliger, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.

4 men arrested in aggravated assault at El Paso YMCA; some suspects in separate assault (El Paso, TX): Four men were arrested after an investigation by the El Paso Police Department's Gang Unit. Three of the men arrested were also arrested at a party in July for allegedly beating someone up for wearing the wrong color.

Some blame gangs for uptick in Louisville gun violence (Louisville, KY): Louisville Metro Police Department says they are seeing a big uptick in gun violence again. So far this year, police have worked 407 shootings. That's compared to 208 at this time last year. "After a while, you think you're going to get immune to it, you'll get to the point where you can handle it," Dr. Eddie Woods, with No More Red Dots told WLKY.

COVID-19 is a factor for increase in Akron’s gun violence, police say (Akron, OH): The Akron Police Department said shootings in the city have increased over the last several months, citing the coronavirus pandemic for one of the factors in the spike. In an open letter shared on the department’s Facebook page, Akron police said it is more challenging to get violent offenders off of the streets and into the Summit County Jail because of population restrictions due to COVID-19 enacted at the Summit County Jail.

Former gang leader sentenced for bribing Chesapeake deputy (Chesapeake, VA): An inmate convicted in 2015 of helping to lead a street gang was sentenced to over two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to paying a Chesapeake sheriff’s deputy to smuggle contraband, including cocaine and heroin, into jail.

Three arrested during Tulare County gang suppression detail (Tulare County, CA): During a weekend gang suppression detail, Tulare County detectives arrested two men and a teenage boy. Detectives found stolen firearms and drugs. TAGNET (Tulare Area Gang and Narcotic Enforcement Team) went out into the streets beginning Friday as a part of "ongoing efforts to reduce gang violence in Tulare County," sheriff's officials stated.

State police arrest four fugitives wanted for violent crimes in Paterson (Paterson, NJ): Four men wanted for violent crimes, including recent shootings, have been arrested by the New Jersey State Police. Warlin Castillo, 19; Rhajhson Hawkins, 19; Eugeonce Coleman, 28; and Larry Cox, 55, all of Paterson, were arrested during a sweep in Paterson on Friday, authorities said. Three of them are members of violent street gangs, authorities said.

Lorain police investigation results in arrest of multiple alleged gang members (Lorain, OH): Authorities made multiple arrests following an investigation by the Lorain Police Department into activities by an alleged local street gang. According to a news release from Lorain Police Chief James McCann, violent crimes, including drive-by shootings and drug related deaths involving fentanyl, occurred throughout 2019 and carried over into 2020 by gang members.
