Portland police look for leads in deadly drive-by (Portland, OR): A 30-year-old man was killed in what Portand police believe was a drive-by shooting. Police have a few leads, but have no further information as to what the motive was and have declined to release any information about the suspects.

Drive-by shots fired at house (Marlboro, NJ): Police arrested four men in connection with a drive-by shooting that occurred in western Marlboro. The men, ranging in age from 19 to 22, opened fire on a group of people in an open garage, but no one was injured, police said. Each was charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, and weapons violations. Police have not been able to determine a motive for the shooting yet.

House passes two death penalty reform bills (Illinois): The Illinois House passed two pieces of legislation to reform the death penalty. House Bill 1281 would remove several aggravating factors for which the death penalty may be imposed for first-degree murder. One of those is murder as a result of a drive-by shooting. Persons convicted of this type of crime could still receive the death penalty under other aggravating factors.

Man Shot by unknown assailant dies (Ventura County, CA): A 22-year-old Santa Paula man died from a gunshot while standing outside a friend's apartment. The victim was shot right after he was asked where he was from. Police have not determined if the shooting was gang-related or not.

Gang signs exchanged before shooting (Salinas, CA): A 27-year-old man was killed in a gang-related shooting that was preceded by an exchange of gang signs. The victim was driving with a passenger when another car pulled up beside them and fired multiple shots into their car, police said. Officials say that the victim was not a certified gang member, but he did associate with them. The gang signs that were used were possibly associated with Norteños. Norteños and Sureños are the Salinas Valley's two main gang factions. Witnesses are helping police with the investigation and one officer said, "We believe we are going to make some headway on this one."

Four charged in home robbery (Sandy, UT): The Salt Lake District Attorney's Office has charged four known gang members following a home invasion robbery on March 26th. The men, ages 18 to 30, were originally charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, and theft, but they now face enhanced penalties because the crimes were gang-related.

Teenage suspect arrested, charged in Gurnee shooting (Gurnee, IL): A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged as a juvenile with attempted murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and aggravated battery. He allegedly wounded a teenage victim in a strip mall parking lot. Police said that a disagreement may have been the motive for the shooting and it is possibly gang-related.

City man charged with killing one in drive-by shooting (Oklahoma City, OK): A 28-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder, shooting with intent to kill, and using a vehicle to facilitate the intentional discharge of a firearm. The Oklahoma City man allegedly killed a 19-year-old male and injured a 17-year-old male in a drive-by shooting in southwest Oklahoma City.

Shooting in southwest Los Angeles leaves three men dead (Los Angeles, CA): Police reported three men (ages 23, 22, 32) died in a gang-related drive-by shooting in southwest Los Angeles. The triple homicide took place on the evening of March 31st when men in a van fired shots into a house south of the Santa Monica Freeway. One man inside the house was struck and a second victim was hit while standing in the yard. Both died at the scene. Another man was wounded and released from a local hospital after being treated. Police believe that the third victim may have been one of the men in the van during the shooting. Suspects are still being sought, police said.

Two brothers hurt in Aurora shooting (Aurora, IL): While walking on a local street, two brothers, 20 and 17 years of age, were victims of a gang-related drive-by shooting. Both were treated for gunshot wounds. Police said a van pulled up to the curb and two or three occupants opened fire with two different types of guns.

Gang probe leads to arrest (Palm Springs, CA): Narcotics officers arrested three Gateway Posse gang members (ages 42, 33, and 21) on April 1 for alleged narcotics and weapons violations. Authorities reported that "the main place where drugs were sold" was in the north end of Palm Springs. An investigation by the Palm Springs and Coachella Valley narcotics task forces had been on-going for a month prior to the drug raid.

Seven shot to death in 30-hour period (Los Angeles, CA): Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers were alarmed when six shootings occurred throughout the Los Angeles area in a span of a little over 24 hours. Four of the shootings were either gang- or drug-related. In the first incident, a bicyclist was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting. Officials could not give any details as to why they thought it was gang-related. The second incident involved an 18-year-old male who was shot multiple times. No witnesses could be located by police. In the third incident, police found a man on a sidewalk bleeding from several gunshot wounds. Witnesses say they heard shots fired, then screeching tires. The last incident was a drive-by shooting in the LAPD's Southwest Division that left two males shot to death.

Authorities search for teen's murderer (Linden, NJ): Police are searching for the suspect in what a local prosecutor has called another "senseless" gang-related murder. Police said the death of the 16-year-old son of a police officer resulted from continuation of a confrontation between two groups, possibly the Crips and Bloods.

Teen killed (Panorama City, CA): An 18-year-old man was fatally shot in Panorama City, in what is believed to be a gang-related attack, Los Angeles police said. The man died at the scene where the shooting took place. There was no other information on the shooting.

Anti-gang effort nets four arrests in a week (Oxnard, CA): In a crackdown on violence, police in Oxnard, California, arrested four alleged gang members, ages 19, 21, 22, and 33, and confiscated four handguns.

North Aurora bowling alley fight leaves four shot, one beaten (North Aurora, IL): In North Aurora, Illinois, police reported five people (23 year-old-male, three 21-year-old males, and a 25-year-old female) injured in multiple gang-related shootings and fights at a local bowling alley. The four shootings were not fatal, but police did detain one of the shooting victims for a prior unrelated charge.

Westerville schools; Drive-by threat leads to four arrests (Westerville, OH): Police have arrested four teen-agers and recovered a weapon in connection with a threatened drive-by shooting that closed two schools. The incident allegedly grew out of a problem in the neighborhood that spread to the schools last week. Two of the teens were arrested for threatening a drive-by shooting of a student, and the other two were charged with carrying a deadly weapon on school property.

Country Club Hills man held in fatal shooting (Chicago, IL): A 27-year-old man, believed to have links to a Chicago street gang, allegedly fired multiple shots from his car that killed a 13-year-old boy. The boy was leaving the park with friends when he was shot. Police are not certain whether the boy or one of his companions was the intended victim.

Brawl in La Habra injures seven or more (La Habra, CA): A suspected gang-related fight broke out on the streets of La Habra during the evening of March 30th, police reported. Officials reported seven people between the ages of 15 to 29 were injured, two severely. Police have not had any leads as to identity or number of suspects or the specific cause of the fight.
