Reported crimes in Madison fell 9.3 percent in 2011 (Madison, WI): The number of crimes reported in the city of Madison fell 9.3 percent last year, despite increases in homicides, thefts and fraud cases, police said. Chief Noble Wray stressed that the crime data does not adequately reflect several community safety issues, including youth and gang violence.

Police: Man stabbed at swap mall by gang members (Santa Ana, CA): A 19-year-old was stabbed Thursday during a fight at the Bristol Swap Mall, police said. The stabbing victim was at the swap mall in the 1200 block of South Bristol Street with his father and sister shortly after noon when three or four men in their early 20s approached him, asking whether he was affiliated with a gang, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.
