FBI says drug sting around Aurora targeted Maniac Latin Disciples (Aurora, IL): The FBI and Aurora police Tuesday announced that after a two-year investigation dubbed "Operation Fallen Angel," 12 people — most from Aurora — have been charged with taking part in a cocaine sales ring. In announcing the arrests, the FBI said the investigation "targeted known and suspected members of the Maniac Latin Disciples street gang," though it was not clear whether the Aurora investigation was related to a Chicago crackdown on the Maniac Latin Disciples.

Council debates whether city should defuse or suppress gangs (Yakima, WA): A Tuesday night vote on whether the City Council should approve a consultant's contract turned into a mini-debate on Yakima's gang problem. Under the agreement approved 6-0, with Dave Ettl absent, consultant Steve Magallan will be paid up to $30,000 over the next year to help the city seek anti-gang grants and to provide related support to the city's Gang Free Initiative and to the police department.

Two arrested in shooting on Evansville's South Side (Evansville, IN): Evansville police have arrested two suspects in connection with at least one shooting on the city's South Side last week. Rayshaad L. Bushrod, 23, and David "Buck" Burge, 30, are in Vanderburgh County Jail without bond.

Shootings early yesterday in city appear to be 'gang-related' (Lawrence, MA): An Olive Avenue man will be arraigned this morning on an attempted murder charge for allegedly shooting and beating a man on Florence Street early yesterday morning. Case against Tongan Crip Gang heading to jury (Salt Lake City, UT): It started with simple beer runs. A group calling themselves the Tongan Crip Gang would go into a 7-Eleven and shoplift a case of beer for the night. Theft graduated to robbing restaurants at gunpoint for money and assaulting store employees in the process. Soon, the gang brought a new level of violence to their crime spree — they threatened to kill a clerk with a screwdriver, stomped on someone during a hold-up so severely that they broke three of the victim’s ribs and beat up an elderly man on the street.
