McHenry County files lawsuit against street gang (McHenry County, IL): The McHenry County State's Attorney has filed suit against a well known street gang. McHenry County State's Attorney Louis A. Bianchi announced Tuesday that his office has filed suit against the Latin Kings under the Illinois Street Gang Terrorism Omnibus Prevention Act in an effort to destroy the infrastructure of the gang.

Anti-gang, voting rights bills fail to advance in Olympia (Olympia, WA): Two hot-button legislative proposals -- a state voting rights act and an anti-gang bill -- died Tuesday in Olympia. Each held vastly different, but no less controversial, implications for Yakima. One, a proposal, which would have legalized civil injunctions against gang members, had earlier gained bipartisan approval from the House Public Safety & Emergency Preparedness Committee.

Mandatory minimums meant to reduce gun violence (Toronto, ON): Canada's tough minimum sentence laws were meant to curb the rising tide of gun violence, especially by gang members in Ontario and Alberta. In 2005, Canada had 658 homicides — a second straight year for an increase and it was driven by gang-related mayhem. There were 107 gang-related killings, representing 16% of all homicides, and these numbers were particularly alarming in Ontario and Alberta.
