FBI says drug sting around Aurora targeted Maniac Latin Disciples (Aurora, IL): The FBI and Aurora police Tuesday announced that after a two-year investigation dubbed "Operation Fallen Angel," 12 people — most from Aurora — have been charged with taking part in a cocaine sales ring. In announcing the arrests, the FBI said the investigation "targeted known and suspected members of the Maniac Latin Disciples street gang," though it was not clear whether the Aurora investigation was related to a Chicago crackdown on the Maniac Latin Disciples.

Council debates whether city should defuse or suppress gangs (Yakima, WA): A Tuesday night vote on whether the City Council should approve a consultant's contract turned into a mini-debate on Yakima's gang problem. Under the agreement approved 6-0, with Dave Ettl absent, consultant Steve Magallan will be paid up to $30,000 over the next year to help the city seek anti-gang grants and to provide related support to the city's Gang Free Initiative and to the police department.
