Police: 16 arrested, 8 firearms recovered in gang sweep (Worcester, MA): Police say 16 gang members and associates have been arrested on firearms charges after a months-long investigation. The U.S. Attorney's Office says eight firearms were recovered, including large-capacity weapons and police say five of the gang members were either victims or perpetrators of past gun violence.

Providence detective testifies killing was not gang-related (Providence, RI): Providence Detective Angelo A'vant told jurors Monday that Francis Rodriguez was not a member of the C-Block gang at the time of his shooting death May 2, 2014. Rodriguez had, at some point, been a member, but A'vant said he learned from speaking with friends, family and C-Block members themselves that was no longer the case.

Arcara Monday to conspiracy to distribute cocaine in the city from his former East Side store.

County awarded $1 million state grant to prevent youth violence (Santa Cruz, CA): Santa Cruz County leaders took a step toward preventing youth violence this month by securing a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. The grant will carry out part of the Santa Cruz County Youth Violence Prevention Plan, which launched in May and aims to reduce youth violence, raise school attendance and increase job training and employment. It tries to strengthen youths, families and neighborhoods and is geared toward state, federal and private grants to reach its goals.
