TexasTyler gang member gets 45 years in prison for injuring police officers, trying to take their weapon (Tyler, TX): A Tyler man, who is involved in a criminal street gang, was sentenced to 45 years in prison for injuring two police officers and trying to take one of their weapons. Anthony Bendy Jr., 35, was found guilty of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance with a deadly weapon and then sentenced by a Smith County jury.

IllinoisMan found guilty in 2019 murder of 15-year-old boy in Rockford (Rockford, IL): A man has been found guilty First Degree Murder and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm in a 2019 shooting that left a 15-year-old boy dead in Rockford. Juan Mora, 27, was found guilty on Thursday. Officers learned that the shooting was suspected to be gang related as a man, later identified as Juan Mora, asked Za’Shawn and his friends if they were Latin kings, to which they responded no—that they were not in a gang.

GeorgiaConvicted felon admits threatening to kill a witness and a federal judge (Brunswick, GA): A convicted felon and gang member faces substantial additional time in federal prison after admitting he threatened a witness and a federal judge. Wilbert Stephens, 29, of Brunswick, Ga., pled guilty in U.S. District Court to Solicitation to Commit a Crime of Violence and Mailing Threatening Communications, said David H. Estes, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia.

UtahSalt Lake City police search for suspects in likely gang-related shooting on Redwood Road (Salt Lake City, UT): Police are investigating what they believe was a gang-related shooting in Salt Lake City early Friday morning. SLCPD Lt. Dave Cracroft told Gephardt Daily a 38-year-old man riding in an SUV was wounded in the gunfire on Redwood Road about 2 a.m. Cracroft said the shooting was the result of an argument over a stolen car, which, ironically, none of those involved in the incident actually owned.

AlabamaGreensboro Police report uptick in gang violence (Greensboro, AL): Greensboro Police are reporting an uptick in gang related crimes. In recent months, officers tell CBS 42 that they have investigated nearly a dozen shooting cases in the Ward Street area of the city.

GeorgiaCharges dropped after a local man was faced with 1,100 years in prison (Richmond County, GA): News 12′s Sydney Heiberger sat down with the wife of Maurice Franklin in her first interview since his release from jail. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office arrested Franklin in September of 2019. He was accused of being involved in a drive-by shooting where no one got hurt.

ConnecticutSuperseding Indictment Charges 8 Bridgeport Gang Members with Drug Trafficking, Committing 6 Murders (New Haven, CT): As part of an ongoing investigation into gang-related drug trafficking and related violence in Bridgeport, a federal grand jury in New Haven has returned a superseding indictment charging an additional four Bridgeport men with conspiring to engage in a pattern of racketeering activity, including drug trafficking, murder and attempted murder.
