Ex-gang member opens ULON resource center in Avalon Park (Chicago, IL): A new resource center offering help and support for ex-offenders looking to change their lives around and get a fresh start has opened in Chicago's Avalon Park neighborhood. Community activist Pete Keller said on Thursday that his dream, which has been in the making for nearly 20 years, has finally come true with the opening of his ULON Resource Center.

Suspected Gang Leader Jason Brown, Already Accused Of Supporting ISIS, Now Faces Additional Drug, Gun Charges (Chicago, IL): A new federal indictment added drug and gun charges against a suburban man already charged with trying to provide material support to ISIS. Jason Brown, who also goes by Abdu Ja’Me and Matthew Dobbs, was first charged in 2019 with trying three different times to provide $500 to ISIS.

‘Deadly, dangerous violence’ spreads Portland resources thin (Portland, OR): The Portland Police Bureau is grappling with a drastic rise in violent crime and shootings. Police said there have already been 18 homicides — 13 of which were related to gun violence — in the city of Portland just barely over two months into 2021. PPB Sergeant Kevin Allen said gang activity is partly to blame for the uptick in shootings, but officers have been responding to various forms of gun violence calls.

Fort Bend County officials launch new program to help at-risk youths (Fort Bend County, TX): Fort Bend County leaders have instituted a new program to help at-risk youths succeed. The Expose Excellence Youth Program, an initiative to help non-violent juvenile offenders end the cycle of repeated incarcerations, launched Feb. 27.

Drug Dealer Who Brought Young Children to Drug Deal Receives 78 Months in Federal Prison (Wilmington, NC): A New Hanover County man was sentenced yesterday to 78 months imprisonment for distribution of a quantity of heroin and fentanyl; possession with intent to distribute a quantity of heroin; and, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

FBI investigates Orange County-based street gang, local authorities participating in search (Orange County, CA): Orange County authorities joined federal officers Wednesday morning in the investigation of a local street gang. FBI spokesperson Rukelt Dalberis said in a statement that the Orange County Violent Gang Task Force and its partners executed 12 federal search warrants; one federal arrest warrant; one state arrest warrant; and probation compliance checks as part of the investigation.

Albany Felon Sentenced to 51 Months for Illegally Possessing a Loaded, Stolen Firearm (Albany, NY): Jahmeek Croley, a/k/a “Meeker,” age 33, of Albany, was sentenced today to 51 months in prison for unlawfully possessing a loaded firearm as a felon. Croley was arrested on November 14, 2019, as part of an operation targeting the Yard Boys criminal street gang undertaken by the Capital District Safe Streets Gang Task Force, a collaboration of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.

2 Tyler men arrested for alleged drug sales on social media after year-long anti-gang unit investigation (Tyler, TX): Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division Special Agents assigned to the East Texas Anti-Gang Unit have been conducting a year-long joint investigation with the Smith County Sheriff’s Office and Tyler Police Department, DPS PIO Sgt. Jean Dark said Wednesday night.

NYPD to Team Up With Community Groups To Combat Graffiti (New York, NY): The NYPD announced a new initiative Wednesday that will see the police team up with local communities to combat graffiti across the city. The initiative, called the “Graffiti Clean-Up” campaign, will see the NYPD use information submitted by the public to identify graffiti hotspots – and then help community volunteers clean it up.

Healdsburg police investigating after man shot (Healdsburg, CA): Healdsburg officers on Wednesday continued to investigate what they suspect is a gang-related shooting that injured a man over the weekend and led to the arrest of two others after the search of a nearby home turned up multiple weapons, high-capacity magazines and drugs for sale, police said.
