San Antonio gang member on Texas' Most Wanted list captured in Irving (Irving, TX): The Texas Department of Public Safety has arrested a San Antonio man who was on its 10 Most Wanted List, the department said Tuesday. Tyrell Ezeekiel Darden, 20, was arrested Thursday in Irving and charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

26 people charged with gang-related gun purchases in Scranton (Scranton, PA): Charges have been filed against more than two dozen people involved in an investigation dubbed "Operation Grabbing Straws." The district attorney says 26 people were charged in connection with the purchase of guns used in, or intended to be used in, gang-related violence in Scranton.

P.A.C.E Building Relationships Between Youth and Police (Omaha, NE): President Trump issued a proclamation recognizing September 20-26 as National Gang Violence Prevention Week. In Omaha, an organization has been working to reduce gang violence and promote police-community relations through sports for 15 years. “The philosophy we have is that if children play together at the age of 11, it is much more difficult to kill each other at 16,” says Gang Squad Officer Tony Espejo.

As surge in violence continues in Durham, mom recounts close call with stray bullet into son’s bedroom (Durham, NC): So far this year, 226 people have been shot in Durham and 25 people have died from gunshot wounds, according to Durham Police. The number of people shot this year is up from 2019. Police said 132 people had been shot between Jan. 1, 2019 and Sept. 19, 2019.

Fresno police seeing increase in gang-related shootings (Fresno, CA): It was a busy night for Fresno police as they're now investigating two homicides that happened just hours apart. One involved a 17-year-old teen identified as Lance San, who was shot near Barton and Washington on Monday.

Drug war triggers gun violence in Prince George, B.C. (Prince George, BC): Officials are blaming a drug war for a spate of gun violence in Prince George. Over just 7 days, there have been four drive-by shootings, an arson attack and the shooting of a woman who police later found in a driveway. Another crime, in which a man on a bicycle shot a stranger with a handgun last week does not appear to be connected to the others, according to RCMP.

Gang member sentenced to 19 years in prison for fatal 2016 shooting of 1-year-old Compton girl: DA (Los Angeles County, CA): A Hawthorne man who pleaded no contest to charges related to the fatal shooting of a 1-year-old girl in Compton more than four years ago has been sentenced to 19 years in state prison, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

Border Patrol Apprehends Previously Deported MS-13 Gang Member (Ocotillo, CA): U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested a gang member Monday evening. The incident occurred at around 9 p.m., when agents assigned to the El Centro Station apprehended a man in the Jacumba Wilderness approximately 29 miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry. The man was transported to the El Centro Station for immigration and criminal history screening.

Third claim filed against Pasadena after police shooting, alleges racism (Pasadena, CA): Lawyers representing one of Anthony McClain’s three children have filed a claim against Pasadena — the third such claim — after a city police officer shot and killed McClain as he fled from a traffic stop. That traffic stop was improper and racially motivated, the claim alleges, and it’s part of a larger pattern of racially-motivated behaviors from the Pasadena Police Department, purportedly stemming from its gang enforcement unit.
