US authorities allege Armando Eliu Melgar Díaz, alias “Blue” or “Clipper,” was the head of the MS13’s East Coast Program, according to an indictment unsealed on July 14.

After steady beginning, Chattanooga sees 20% increase in gun violence this year (Chattanooga, TN): Gun violence has spiked across the nation amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and Chattanooga is no exception. Despite a steady beginning, this year has seen an increase in shootings that matches that of 2016, a year that saw a bloody, weekslong gang war. But only a small percentage of this year's incidents have been confirmed to be gang related, according to Chattanooga police.

Lorain Community Conversation addresses youth violence (Lorain, OH): Kyriece Brooks, director of Lorain County Stop the Violence, called on civic and community leaders to step up in reaching out to address what he calls a crisis of gun violence and heightened suicide rates plaguing our youth. He believes one of the reasons for the uptick is broken homes. Then there is a lack of good role models for youth, he said. At about 10:22 p.m. Friday, officers with the Merced Police Department Gang Violence Suppression Unit arrested Jaquinn Hamilton, 23, on a local warrant at an apartment in the 1900 block of Shadowbrook Drive, according to a police department news release.

"My primary concern is the level of violence, that’s why we’re involved," said Special Agent Ron Hopper during a news conference on Friday. Dashae Armstrong Sentenced For Gang Shooting That Injured Five Homeless, One Fatally (Denver, CO): One of the two men who exchanged afternoon gunfire in the busy Ballpark neighborhood near Coors Field in November 2018 was sentenced last week in federal court. Armstrong, a known gang member, was convicted of possessing a weapon. That violated federal law because Armstrong had been previously convicted of a felony.

The incidents occurred during the early morning hours of July 7, 2018 at three separate locations - Schiller Avenue, a parking lot on South Arlington and an alleyway near 6th Avenue and Minordy Place. Donyea and Orlando Tyus were tried together before a Summit County jury.
