16 captured in Athens as operation seizes nearly $1M in illegal drugs, 43 guns (Athens, GA): A total of 16 people were arrested this week on drug trafficking and gun charges, police said. Just under $1 million worth of drugs and 43 guns are off the streets in the Athens area, thanks to the efforts they are calling "Operation Benchwarmers," a coordinated take-down capturing defendants wanted on federal charges.

Thirteen Members and Associates of Violent Sex Trafficking Gang “The Sevens” Charged in Superseding Indictment (Reading, PA): United States Attorney William M. McSwain and Acting Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Philadelphia William Walker announced today that 13 individuals from Reading were charged in a 22-count Superseding Indictment with offenses including conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise; conspiracy to commit sex trafficking by force, fraud, and coercion of a minor; various violent crimes in aid of racketeering offenses including murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, and assaults with dangerous weapons; sex trafficking; and child exploitation and firearms offenses.

Council, residents applaud restoration of Woodland gang task force (Woodland, CA): Woodland won’t “arrest its way” out of a string of gang-related murders. Only a “substantial and systemic” approach from the entire community will do that. Nonetheless, acting Tuesday night the five-person council voted unanimously to take immediate action and approve $50,000 to pay for overtime and an expanded police presence to investigate the months of shooting deaths and added patrols.

Winston-Salem Gang Steering Committee takes to the streets (Winston-Salem, NC): On Aug. 22, 2019, three teenagers were shot off South Main Street in Winston-Salem. The next day, a 23-year-old was shot and killed at South Main and Silas Creek Parkway. A half-year later, a group is setting out to cut down on violence in that area and Winston-Salem as a whole. They say much of it starts with specific groups. Those groups, they say, are gangs.

Anti-Gang Center aims to decrease crime in Smith County (Tyler, TX): According to a report done by the Department of Public Safety, more than 100,000 gang members live in Texas, but newly-formed Anti-Gang Centers, could bring that number down. “We know that probably 85 to 90 percent, just about any offense that you can think of, any violent offense that you can think of, and a lot of property crimes are directed related to drugs. All of that is pretty much gang related,” said Sheriff Larry Smith.

One of Texas' 'most wanted gang members' arrested in San Antonio. Gov. Abbott Tweets his thanks. (San Antonio, TX): Texas Governor Greg Abbott thanked deputies from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office for arresting "one of Texas' most wanted gang members" in San Antonio. The BCSO announced the arrest on its Facebook page Sunday, stating the Sheriff’s Habitual Offenders Team and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force worked together to arrest aggravated robbery suspect Xavier Johnson, 25, in the 500 block of Sunrise Canyon.

MS-13 gang member arrested by Yuma agents (Yuma, AZ): Border Patrol agents arrest another MS-13 gang member, but this time in Yuma Monday. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection said a 47-year-old man from El Salvador, and another individual was arrested north of the Andrade Port of Entry by Yuma Station agents.
