Northeast Valley police make loud partygoers face the music (Pacoima, CA): Los Angeles police officers charged with breaking up loud and unruly parties know the fastest way to find out who is in charge. "Trust me, you hook the deejay, they'll find the owner," said Officer Casey Sbabo. It was after 11 p.m. Friday and more than a dozen LAPD officers ushered out stragglers from the group of more than 150 mostly teenagers — including suspected gang members — who helped turn a vast dirt yard in Pacoima into a dance floor.

Gang fight wounds 3 bystanders (Houston, TX): A 6-year-old girl and her father were among three people shot in a gang-related gunfight Sunday that occurred after the Freedom Over Texas festivities ended near downtown. Houston police said two groups of men began fighting at White Oak Park in the 2200 block of White Oak as a crowd was leaving the park about 10 p.m.

Good samaritans shot in Bronx 'gang hit' (Bronx, NY): Two good Samaritans were recuperating from gunshot wounds yesterday after they were shot in The Bronx. The attack may have been in retaliation for the pair stopping a street gang from beating up two teens earlier in the day, police said.

New laws to fight gang violence that's spreading across Virginia (Richmond, VA): For years law enforcement and community leaders have been reluctant to acknowledge that Virginia has a gang problem, but growing violence and turf battles have made it harder to deny. "There is definitely a growing gang problem," said Tim Murtaugh, a spokesman for Attorney General Jerry W. Kilgore.

8-year-old wounded in drive-by at park (Chicago, IL): Chicago police Saturday were searching for two men suspected of opening fire on a playground in the Pilsen neighborhood Friday night, wounding an 8-year-old boy in the abdomen. Witnesses told police that three others might have been wounded, a woman and two children, ages 2 and 5.

Raid targets ambition of Salvadoran gang (Boston, MA): Two days of raids spanning several communities ended last night with the arrest of dozens of members of the Salvadoran street gang MS-13 and other gang members on drug, assault, and weapons charges, police said.

Cops: Subway shooting gang-related (New York City, NY): Police believe that a shooting on a Queens subway platform Thursday night may have been gang-related. Alberto Quintero, 23, of Elmhurst, was shot in the face while standing on the platform in the Queensboro Plaza station awaiting the arrival of a Manhattan-bound No. 7 train.

L.A.'s 18th Street Gang is hit with injunction forbidding recruiting (Los Angeles, CA): With a new twist on an old tactic, the Los Angeles city attorney's office has won a permanent injunction against the infamous 18th Street gang, barring members from recruiting young people. "We need to find new ways to cut off membership," City Atty. Rocky Delgadillo said.

Riot erupts at detention center (Olmito, TX): A gang-related riot inside the Carrizalez-Rucker Detention Center near Olmito Friday afternoon left one inmate with a stab wound to the neck and 11 others injured. Although jail officials said that the gang turf-war they experienced Friday is part of a trend of state jail violence drifting south, experts say that the possibility is unlikely and that the violence is probably a local problem.

Police target gang violence (Ceres, CA): Last weekend's gang sweep in Ceres is just one way law enforcement is targeting widespread street violence in Stanislaus County. The Sheriff's Department and Modesto police say they are stepping up patrols, sharing information and working to get guns out of gang hands.

DiBiagio says city gang is 'finished' (Baltimore, MA): Federal and local authorities announced yesterday that they have dismantled a well-armed East Baltimore street gang, and will prosecute in federal court the men accused of waging war with other city drug distributors and terrorizing neighborhoods throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Grandpa's gang (Tulare and Fresno County, CA): Street gangs are in the cross hairs of law enforcement statewide. The South Valley is no exception. The Tulare County grand jury report, released last week, takes special notice of a growing problem with South Valley gangs, saying that there are now 5,784 documented gang members in Tulare County representing 93 different street gangs.

Lowell girl faces perjury charge in murder probe (Lowell, MA): A 17-year-old Lowell girl is facing up to life in prison after she was charged with perjury yesterday in connection with the ongoing investigation into the June 24 murder of a teenager on Branch Street. Chansarom Sreng, of 17 Manahan St., was arrested at police headquarters last night by city and state police detectives investigating the gang-related slaying.

Two arrested in series of armed robberies (Visalia, CA): A 19-year-old Visalia man and a 13-year-old boy were arrested Wednesday night in a series of robberies and thefts that occurred in the span of three hours, police said. Visalia police said they are looking for a third suspect.

Police probe gang ties (Saugus, MA): A night of violence that started at The Palace nightclub in Saugus and spilled down Route 99 to the parking lot of a Malden lounge may be gang related, and possibly tied to a gang fight on Revere Beach two weeks ago, police said.

T.O. teen stabbed in gang fight (Newbury Park, CA): A 16-year-old Thousand Oaks boy was stabbed during a fight between rival gangs in Newbury Park, authorities said Thursday. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Hancock gang activity growing (Hancock County, MS): While the idea of youth gangs usually calls to mind an urban setting, Hancock County has lately shown increasing signs of gang activity. Deputy Harold Hirsch of the Hancock County Sheriff’s serves as a school resource officer during the school year.

Bronx DA indicts 19 in gang violence (Bronx, NY): Nineteen alleged members of two violent Bronx drug gangs were indicted Thursday in a four-year crime wave that included three murders, assorted robberies and various drug sales. The gangs operated out of the Edenwald Houses in the northeast Bronx between Jan. 1, 2000, and June 22, 2004, District Attorney Robert Johnson said.

Drug cartel's alleged leader turns self in (Trenton, NJ): The alleged ringleader of a drug trafficking operation responsible for a significant portion of heroin distribution on New Jersey streets has turned himself in to police. Charles Hamilton, 34, of Irvington, surrendered Wednesday night, 12 hours after state authorities announced arrest warrants for 17 members of the drug cartel, most with ties to the Bloods street gang.

Drug bust dents heroin trafficking statewide (Trenton, NJ): State authorities seized an apartment building, a Maserati and more than $380,000 in cash and bank assets while cracking a major heroin distribution ring in the state, the attorney general said Wednesday. The bust - the largest single seizure in Criminal Justice Division history - accounts for up to 75 percent of heroin trafficking in Trenton and a significant portion of heroin distribution statewide, Attorney General Peter C. Harvey said.
