Mayor says Detroit is safe enough to bring back summer recreation programs (Detroit, MI): Mayor Mike Duggan announced three relief programs for Detroiters on Wednesday, but acknowledged that solving the city's gun violence problem would not be so easy. Bakersfield man pleads guilty to possessing a machine gun (Bakersfield, CA): A member of a Bakersfield street gang pleaded guilty on Tuesday to being in possession of a machine gun. On August 28, 2019, 28-year-old Liodam Gonzalez fired a fully automatic handgun in a residential neighborhood in Bakersfield. Gonzalez was a convicted felon and was a member of the West Side Baker street gang.

Palatine Police Investigate Gang-Related Gunshots (Palatine, IL): Palatine police are investigating after gunshots were exchanged between two groups Saturday morning in the 700 block of East Rand Grove Village in the Rand Grove Village apartment complex, Deputy Police Chief Bill Nord told the Daily Herald. Police said the gunshots started just before 1 a.m. and were gang related, the news source reported, adding that some of the gunshots hit a coach house in the nearby Whispering Oaks complex, and a car.
