Gang member shot while pumping gas, dies (Minneapolis, MN): A 20-year-old Rolling 30s Bloods gang member suffered fatal wounds while pumping gas in south Minneapolis. Sources say he appeared to be the intended target of the shooting. No other information was available.

Gunman kills gang leader, police say (Chicago, IL): Chicago police are investigating a shooting in a West Side barbershop that left a 30-year-old Latin King leader dead. The barbershop is located in an area controlled by the Vice Lords, a rival gang. Another man in the barbershop, who was shot in the foot, was able to provide police with details of the suspect. The gunman then fled the barbershop and continued shooting as he ran through a small parking lot. Another man was shot and wounded. Tactical units were deployed in areas where police thought there could be retaliation.

Shooting may be tied to others (Tulsa, OK): A 23-year-old man died and three 20-year-old men were wounded in a drive-by shooting that may be related to eight homicides which have occurred since March 29, police said. The four men were at an intersection when occupants in another car pulled up and fired shots for "no known reason," police said, quoting the victims. Although some of the people involved in the shooting have gang ties, police are not saying that the shooting is gang-related. "There is a real potential for other motives," an officer said.

Man shot in foot on East Prater Way in Sparks (Sparks, NV): Police are investigating a possible gang-related shooting that wounded a 22-year-old man in Sparks. The victim was walking with his brother when a gunman, in a group of about six men, fired four or five shots, police said. The victim was treated at a hospital and released.

Apparent drive-by in south Minneapolis injures one (Minneapolis, MN): In south Minneapolis, an occupant of a car was injured after more than two-dozen gunshots were fired in a drive-by shooting, witnesses said. The victim left the scene in an ambulance. No further information was available.

Murder pursuit (Los Angeles, CA): Police arrested two suspects, ages 22 and 24, in connection with a drive-by shooting that left a 33-year-old man dead and two women wounded. According to police, one of the suspects shouted a gang slogan and opened fire as the male victim and a friend were getting into their car. The man was shot as they ran from the two suspects, and two women on a porch were wounded. The suspects sped away in a car, but eventually lost control and hit a tree. After a foot chase, police arrrested the suspects.

South shootings (Los Angeles, CA): Two men were wounded in unrelated shootings in South Los Angeles, police said. One man was shot during a drive-by shooting outside a restaurant. He was taken to a hospital to be treated. The second shooting occurred less than two miles away when a pedestrian was shot, police said. The man's condition was unavailable.

Pair arrested in drive-by shooting (Manatee County, FL): Two men, ages 28 and 34, were arrested and charged with attempted murder after a drive-by shooting, police said. The 34-year-old was driving a van, and the 28-year-old fired several rounds at a group of men standing outside a house, according to reports. Additional charges of carrying a concealed weapon, discharging a firearm into a vehicle, shooting a deadly weapon, and criminal mischief were also charged between the two men. There was no information on the victims.

Two new arrests made in fatal shooting (DeKalb County, GA): DeKalb County police have made two more arrests in a drive-by shooting that left a 12-year-old girl dead and another wounded. A 17 and 18-year-old have been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and criminal damage to property in the first degree. Police previously charged two others and say more arrests are possible.

Police seek suspects in fatal drive-by shootings (Compton and San Fernando, CA): In Compton, a drive-by shooting killed a 3-year-old boy during a family gathering and wounded his mother and three others. Two to four suspects drove up to the gathering, exited the vehicle, and opened fire. In the other shooting, two 23-year-old Sylmar men died when a group of males drove by in a vehicle and fired several rounds, an authority said. Two other males were injured and taken to local hospitals.

Centinela shooting (Los Angeles, CA): Detectives are investigating an alleged gang-related drive-by shooting that occurred in Mar Vista. The shooter, accompanied by another man, drove up to a pedestrian, opened fire, and sped away, according to police. The wounded man was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Teen is shot to death (St. Louis, MO) : A 19-year-old male was killed and a 15-year-old was wounded in a possible gang-related shooting, police said. The 19-year-old was fatally shot as he was standing in a front yard, while the same gunfire wounded the 15-year-old in a nearby car. There was no information on the suspects.

Man wounded in Southern California car-to-car freeway shootout (San Fernando, CA): A man was critically injured after being shot at by suspects in another vehicle on the Ronald Reagan Freeway in San Fernando. Four men fled from the second vehicle, which overturned after the shooting. Police used helicopters and dogs to search for the men, but no one was arrested. The victim is expected to survive, and his passenger was not hurt. Investigators found a trail of blood and a gun near the overturned vehicle.

Killings involving gang members on the rise (Aurora and Denver, CO): In Aurora and Denver, Colorado, officials have seen an increase in violence involving gang members, which have driven homicide rates up between 6 to 17 percent. According to the Aurora Police Department, out of nine homicides this year, four have involved at least one gang member. Gang activists, city officials, and officers from police departments in both cities have conflicting opinions on the severity of the recent rise in homicides. One issue being discussed is the distinction between gang-related crimes and gang-motivated crimes.

Police to investigate trio of attacks (Salinas, CA): Investigation is ongoing in three unrelated attempted murders that occurred between early Saturday morning and early Sunday morning. In the first incident, after an argument began, a 21-year-old man was stabbed. In the second and third incidents, shots were fired between vehicles. Police are searching for suspects.

Teen, being sought for drive-by in Las Cruces, found in cabinet (Las Cruces, TX): Police arrested a 19-year-old man who allegedly shot three men in a drive-by shooting in Las Cruces. The three male victims, ages 19, 21, and 23, refused medical treatment, police said.

Two dead, two hurt in gang shooting (Phoenix, AZ): In Central Phoenix, police are investigating a gang shooting that left two dead and two injured. A 22-year-old man died from bullet wounds, and a 17-year-old boy was found dead in a back yard. According to reports, witnesses heard the gunshots, but some thought they were fireworks. Others say that gunfire in the neighborhood is typical. Police have no information about the assailants, and they have no one in custody.

Shooting leaves one dead, one injured (Annapolis, MD): A 21-year-old man was fatally shot and another man in his 20s was wounded when two, possibly three, suspects opened fire. The two victims were standing near the community mailboxes when a car pulled up. Words were exchanged, a verbal argument ensued, and then a series of shots were fired. Police do not know if the shooting was drug-related or gang-related. Information from witnesses is being gathered, and the investigation is continuing.
