Juvenile charged in gang-related shooting death, police say (Central Islip, NY): A juvenile has been arrested and charged in the gang-related shooting that killed a teenager in Central Islip on Aug. 7, Suffolk police said. Police declined to release other details of the arrest, including the age and gender, saying the court process is sealed.

Virginia Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison For Fatal Shooting in Southwest D.C. (Washington, DC): Joshua Lamar Artis, 29, also known as “K.O” (Knock-Out), of Dale City and Woodbridge, Virginia, was sentenced yesterday to 20 years in prison, concurrent to the sentence he is currently serving for a gun offense in Prince William County, Virginia, announced U.S. Attorney Jessie K. Liu and Peter Newsham, Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

Thirty-Three G-Shine Gang Members and Drug Trafficking Associates Plead Guilty in Federal Court (Florence, SC): U.S. Attorney Sherri A. Lydon announced today that less than nine months after 33 Horry County and Myrtle Beach drug traffickers were indicted based on a federal wiretap investigation into the G-Shine/SMG gang, all 33 have pleaded guilty and are being sentenced in federal court.

Terra Bella gang members convicted of murder (Tulare County, CA): Late in the afternoon of August 13 in Department 17 of the Tulare County Superior Court, South County Justice Center, a jury convicted Isidro Gomez Reyes, age 25, and Alfred Gomez, age 22, of murder. Each man was found guilty of first-degree murder and attempted murder with special allegations that the crime was committed for the benefit of a street gang and discharge of a firearm causing death.

DA plans to prosecute probation violators connected to gangs (Albany, GA): The district attorney is speaking out about gangs in the community. Greg Edwards said Thursday in a press conference, if you are on probation, parole or bond, you need to stay away from gang members.

Gang member convicted of carjacking veteran at bank ATM (Knoxville, TN): A Crips gang member who stole the vehicle of a veteran at an ATM has been convicted of carjacking. The jury also found Edward Laquan Springs, 23, to be a member of the Crips street gang.

Multiple people charged in connection with gang-related slaying of Fairfax County teen (Fairfax County, VA): One man has been charged with murder and at least two others with concealing a dead body in connection with the gang-related slaying of a 16-year-old boy whose remains were found buried in a fresh grave in a Fairfax County park in May.

TPS launch 11-week initiative 'Project Community Space' to combat gun and gang violence (Toronto, ON): Toronto’s police chief Mark Saunders announced Wednesday police will launch an 11-week initiative called “Project Community Space” to combat gun and gang violence in the city. The project will be funded by the $4.5 million in immediate funding previously promised by the federal, provincial and municipal governments following the recent rash of gun violence in the city.
