Latin Dragon Nation Member Sentenced to 420 Months Imprisonment Following Conviction for Racketeering Conspiracy Including Hammond Murder (Hammond, IN): Manuel Diaz, 29, of Hammond, Indiana, was sentenced by Judge Philip P. Simon to 420 months imprisonment following his guilty plea to conspiracy to participate in racketeering activity as a member of the Latin Dragon Nation street gang, announced U.S. Attorney Kirsch.

Man Charged with Murder in Aid of Racketeering (Hammond, IN): Gustavo Mata, 28, has been charged with murder in aid of racketeering in a criminal complaint, announced U.S. Attorney Kirsch. According to the criminal complaint, on July 1, 2012, in Chicago, Illinois, Gustavo Mata shot and killed Kelly Vann, age 49, who was mistakenly believed to be a rival gang member, in order to increase his position in the Latin Dragon street gang.

Salinas gang member arrested for trying to incite a riot during peace rally (Salinas, CA): A gang member was arrested after allegedly trying to start a riot during a peace rally held in Salinas with Chief of Police Adele Frese on Monday. According to investigators, Samuel Morelos, 25, was heard trying to incite the crowd at the rally hosted at the Salinas Sports Complex into acts of violence. Morelos is a Norteno gang member.

Steed convicted on gang charges, shootings (McDuffie County, GA): Last week, Toombs Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Thomas B. Hammond sentenced Tyquerion Steed, 19, to 20 years on a myriad of charges which included violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. Jury trials have yet to resume so the case was presented as a bench trial before the judge.

Gang Task Force Arrests Convicted-Felon Gang Member Crashing with a Loaded Firearm (Cathedral City, CA): A single-vehicle traffic collision at the Eastbound I-10 Date Palm Drive offramp on Thursday, May 22nd, 2020, at 10:25 P.M. brought in the California Highway Patrol. The Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force was enlisted for an assist. During the investigation, the driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of serious firepower – a loaded 9mm Glock semi-auto handgun with a threaded barrel, as well as suspected cocaine.
