Teen hit in shoulder in drive-by shooting (Charleston, SC): A 17-year-old male sustained non-life-threatening wounds during a drive-by shooting in North Charleston. The victim reported that the shooting was the result of a disturbance earlier in the evening when someone fired shots at a nearby home. Police are searching for suspects.

16-year-old in serious condition after shooting (Fort Pierce, FL): A 16-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder during a drive-by shooting. The victim was standing near an intersection when an unknown number of people drove by in a vehicle and shot him in the shoulder. There are no suspects or motives in the shooting. Police say this attack is the latest in a string of shootings that have involved teenagers.

Gang task force members announced (Richmond, VA): A 23-member task force has been formed to fight gang violence in Virginia. Among other things, the group will explore ways to identify gang activity, examine Virginia's laws on gang activity, and develop education programs to help children stay away from gangs. The first meeting will be held August 5.

Shooting in West Charlotte leaves one dead, one wounded (Charlotte, NC): A 22-year-old man was killed and an 18-year-old man was wounded in a Charlotte apartment complex parking lot. The surviving victim told police the other victim was fighting with a man when the suspect pulled out a gun and fired several times. Detectives are unsure if the incident was gang-related, but said the victim who died may have been a member of an Asian gang.

10 arrested; 2 cops hurt in mall melee; shot fired in possible retaliation (Eatontown, NJ): An attempted shooting in Asbury Park may be related to a fight that occurred at a mall in Eatontown the night before. As a crowd was leaving the movie theater on Friday night, multiple fights broke out in the theater lobby. Police were called, and two cops were injured as they made arrests. Three adult males, all age 19, were arrested. Two were charged with disorderly conduct and one was charged with disorderly contact and resisting arrest. Seven juveniles were also arrested on charges ranging from disorderly conduct to resisting arrest and weapons offenses. The next day, a 21-year-old male who was involved in the fight at the theater was shot at in what police say was a possible gang-related retaliation. Police report that there are four to five gangs operating in Asbury Park, each gang having between 15 and 20 members.

Two incidents may be gang-related (San Diego, CA): Gang activity is suspected in two shootings occurring minutes apart. In the first incident, two men were shot during an argument with two other men. One adult and one juvenile were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Three minutes later, a van drove up to several men who were standing near a residence and someone fired four or five rounds. No injuries were reported in that incident. Investigation is ongoing.

Nine-year-old girl killed in South Dallas drive-by (Dallas, TX): A drive-by shooting in South Dallas left a 9-year-old girl dead. The girl was in the front yard of a home playing basketball when she was hit by the only bullet fired in the shooting. Police do not have any suspects, and the motive for the shooting is unknown. Police are also unsure who the intended target was.

Police seeking slaying suspects (Durham, NC): Police are searching for two gang members who shot and killed a 17-year-old man. The victim and a friend were walking down a street when two men from a rival gang followed them and said the victim was "wearing the wrong color" for the neighborhood. Police have descriptions of the suspects, but no arrests have been made.

19 Bloods nailed in drug bust (Bronx, NY): Police arrested 15 members of the Bloods gang for selling crack and heroin in the Hunts Point section of The Bronx. The arrests are the result of a 12-month undercover operation known as "Operation Bloody Point." Four additional members of the gang who were already in custody for other offenses were also charged.

Police say aspiring rappers evolved into gang (Clayton County, GA): Police are investigating to see if members of the "Hit Squad," a gang that started out as a few individuals who wanted to be rap stars, are involved in three consecutive days of shootings, which left a 17-year-old injured. The gang, which police say has "spiraled out of control," is believed to have about 40 members, ranging from ages 15 to 20.

Man killed in South Valley (South Valley, NM): A 24-year-old man was killed outside a South Valley home after an argument escalated and shots were fired. The shooting occurred at a party when the victim and another person began arguing about property and money. Police say the shooting appears to be gang-related.

Bicyclist shoots and kills 22-year-old on West Side (San Antonio, TX): A 22-year-old man was killed when another man rode up on a bicycle and shot him at close range. Witnesses say that the shooter "parked his bike, got down, popped this guy." The gunman fled on his bicycle. Police say there is a strong possibility that the incident was gang-related. At least three witnesses were taken to police headquarters for questioning.

2 Men shot in Hempstead (Hempstead, NY): Two men, ages 18 and 23, were shot while standing on a street corner. Two vehicles passed the group and the occupants "flashed hand signs indicating they were members of the Bloods gang," said police. After the car passed, a bicyclist stopped and shot the victims with a handgun. The suspects fled the scene. Police are still investigating whether or not the victims are gang members and if they were the intended victims.

Police suspect fatal shooting was gang-related (Tucson, AZ): A 31-year-old man was found fatally shot in his car in what police suspect was a gang killing. Investigators believe the victim was a gang member and that the shooting was not a random act.

Gunfire in Moreno Valley wounds three young men (Moreno Valley, CA): Three young men were wounded by gunfire in Moreno Valley. The victims were shot by an unknown suspect following an argument. Police are unsure if the shooting is gang-related. Investigation is ongoing.

Brother warned of gang danger (Fort Worth, TX): A man and woman, both 18, were fatally wounded when they were shot at Rosemont Park. Friends of the victims had an argument with a group of men as they left a convenience store earlier in the evening. Police say "they were throwing gang signs back and forth and gestures." The victims were at the park when their friends arrived. The group of men followed them and a fight broke out. The group of men left and returned, and a passenger in the back of the car fired once, striking the two victims in the head. A 21-year-old has been arrested, and other occupants of the car are being questioned. Police are trying to determine the suspect's gang history.

Man arrested in gang-related slaying (Las Vegas, NV): North Las Vegas Police arrested a man in connection with a gang-related slaying that occurred last month. Two men, ages 25 and 23, were both fatally shot after arguing with a group of rival gang members. Police are still searching for several other suspects.

Gang warrants (Monterey Park, CA): As a three-year investigation comes to a close, twenty-three members of the Black Dragon Gang were arrested for crimes consisting of murders, attempted murders, assaults, drive-by shootings, weapons violations, and more. The gang consists of about 30 members, mostly of Asian descent, and has been active since 1984.

Man arrested in teen's shooting (Arvada, CO): A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in the killing of an 18-year-old in May. The victim had a pool party and as the party was ending, a group of teenagers and adults showed up and several fights broke out. As the group was leaving, several shots were fired and the victim was killed. Officials suspect potential gang affiliations, but have not released details of any possible gang tie.

Shooting injures Elgin man's legs (Carpentersville, IL): A 26-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting as he was standing in a driveway visiting a friend. As a minivan drove past, a passenger leaned out the window and fired four shots. The victim was wounded in both legs. Investigation is continuing, but no suspects have been arrested.
