CaliforniaGunman fires into party; eight wounded (Long Beach, CA): A gunman opened fire into a crowded high school graduation party outside a Long Beach home early Saturday morning, wounding eight youths and adults, authorities said. The shooting about midnight occurred in the 500 block of Temple Avenue, a residential neighborhood a few blocks from the beach, said Sgt. David Cannan of the Long Beach Police Department.

WisconsinGang program off to slow start (Wausau, WI): She's only 17, but the tattoos on her wrists and arms are faded. Gang members used a homemade tattoo machine with a sewing needle to mark her affiliation with ink on her body. She points to them - there are five - and explains the meaning of each gang symbol.

TexasSchools, police deal with youth violence (Harlingen, TX): With another school year over and summer heating up, Harlingen police are looking at ways to combat gang-related youth violence. Arrests were made recently in a June 5 drive-by shooting and a June 6 case where a man was injured when youths threw bricks at him and his home.

North CarolinaGang members arrested in thefts (Stoney Creek, NC): Guilford County sheriff's deputies arrested 13 alleged gang members this week following a rash of car thefts and vehicle break-ins throughout Forest Oaks and Pleasant Garden. Police believe the suspects belong to the TRG, short for Tiny Rascals Gang. The group targeted unlocked vehicles with keys in the ignition or valuables visible from outside, according to police.

CaliforniaGang fight over woman left child shot (Fresno, CA): A gang fight over a woman reportedly dating a member of a rival gang is believed to have led to a shootout in which a 10-year-old Fresno boy was shot in the leg, police said Friday. Lt. Dennis Bridges said two men have been arrested in connection with the Thursday night incident. Three others are being sought.

CaliforniaYoung victims 'innocent bystanders' (Oakland, CA): A day after catching a bullet in the cheek, one of two victims in a shooting on the front lawn of Castlemont High School made a brief appearance on campus Thursday. Reached by phone, the 15-year-old boy said he was kind of scared during the shooting, but now "I'm doing OK."

GeorgiaTwo charged in shooting of Riverdale boy (Riverdale, GA): A Clayton County man and a teenager face felony murder charges in the shooting death of a 4-year-old Riverdale boy who was killed Sunday while riding his bicycle in a park. Deontrez Soyo Williams, 21, and a 16-year-old were arrested Thursday night. Police have refused to identify the juvenile.

IllinoisBoy shot after rally against violence (Englewood, IL): On a day when police announced a major drug bust in the Englewood neighborhood and community members marched for reduced violence, a 13-year-old was critically shot Wednesday in the area, caught in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting.

New YorkGang violence at Oceanside High School (Oceanside, NY): Seven reputed members of the MS13 gang were arrested and charged with starting a fight with three students at Oceanside High School last week. According to the police, the six adults and one juvenile donned gang colors, brandished weapons and hit and kicked the OHS students before a school security guard broke up the scuffle.

WashingtonTeen's death called gang-related (Kennewick, WA): The blue jeans and blue T-shirt a 16-year-old Kennewick boy was wearing could be among the reasons he was gunned down Monday evening. Police say the death of Gonzalo Magana was gang-related, and they are searching for Luis H. Barragan, a 15-year-old suspected gang member who is wanted for questioning.

FloridaAgents bust local marijuana operation run by national gang (Orange County, FL): Orange County agents busted a marijuana growing and dealing operation during a raid Thursday morning. They say it was run by a major national gang that's establishing itself in Central Florida. They found marijuana plants growing behind a home on Makoma Road near Orange Blossom Trail.

CaliforniaAssault suspect looking for gang initiation (San Mateo, CA): The 20-year-old jail inmate accused of beating an officer last week may have been looking for entry into the Sureno gang, according to the District Attorney's Office. Rafael Jaime pleaded not guilty to felony assault charges in the attack on the sheriff's deputy and to the assault charges that initially landed him in jail.

CaliforniaMan stabbed to death outside Harvest Moon (Santa Cruz County, CA): A 29-year-old Watsonville man was murdered near Green Valley Road on Saturday night, and police are releasing few details about the crime. Shortly after midnight, two Hispanic males were brought to Watsonville Community Hospital suffering from stab wounds. Neither victim's name has been released, but police believe the men had gang affiliations.

New YorkGOP takes tough stance against gangs (Syracuse. NY): With Guardian Angels founder and noted vigilante Curtis Sliwa by their side, Assembly Republicans Monday pitched legislation that would toughen penalties for gang-related crimes. The GOP bills take special aim at gang members who try to recruit students. The measures would also increase penalties for hazing and bullying.
