Connecticut § 7-294l. State and Local Police Training Programs to Provide Training on Gang-Related Violence

Each police basic or review training program conducted or administered by the Division of State Police within the Department of Public Safety, the Police Officer Standards and Training Council established under Section 7-294b, or a municipal police department in the state shall include training on gang-related violence.

Connecticut § 7-294x. Council to Provide Training to Public School Security Personnel

The Police Officer Standards and Training Council established under Section 7-294b shall provide training to security personnel employed in the public schools by a local or regional board of education. Such training shall include drug detection and gang identification.

Iowa § 80B.11. Rules

The director of the [police] academy, subject to the approval of the council, shall promulgate rules in accordance with the provisions of this chapter and chapter 17A, giving due consideration to varying factors and special requirements of law enforcement agencies relative to the following:

4. Within the existing curriculum, expanded training regarding racial and cultural awareness and dealing with gang-affected youth.

Rhode Island § 42-28.2-8.2. Educational Requirements—Gang Related Activity

The commission on standards and training shall prepare and publish mandatory training standards to provide instructions for police officers in identifying, responding to, and reporting all incidents of criminal gang activity as defined in Section 11-61-3. The commission shall include the training in all curricula for recruits and in-service trainees, in all police academies operating or certified by the commission.

Texas Gov’t Code § 508.1141. Specialized Training; Gang Members.

The department shall develop and provide specialized training for parole officers supervising releasees previously identified by the department as being members of prison gangs, criminal street gangs, or security threat groups.
